The first Filipino martyr and saint, Lorenzo Ruiz, is the model and special friend of all the members of the Bloomfield family. He is looked upon as worthy of emulation because of his courage and love for God which is greater than his love for his own life.

His being a Filipino encourages his fellow Filipinos to aspire for sainthood, to take pride in their people and their country and in the fact that one among them can be elevated to such high honors.

San Lorenzo Ruiz was officially canonized last October 18, 1987 in Vatican Rome. His feast is celebrated by the whole Catholic Church every September 28.
